Adam Balewicz Scores Hat Trick in Nashoba Regional Tournament Opening Game

Adam Balewicz had just four goals prior to Thursday, when he scored three in leading seventh-seeded Nashoba Regional past No. 26 Taunton High in Division 3 tournament action at New England Sports Center in Providence. Balewicz scored all three of Nashoba Regional’s goals en route to its 17-3-0 record improvement. DiBello and Pierce contributed the remaining goals as their Wolves improved to 17-3-0.

Professional Career

Nashoba Regional sophomore Adam Balewicz entered this week’s Division 3 tournament having only scored four goals so far this season, but nearly doubled that figure on Thursday evening when he notched his first ever hat trick during the Wolves’ 6-0 victory over Taunton.

On track, three-time T&G Super Team selection Sean Gullage found himself “trampled” at the Bob McIntyre Invitational in mid-October; nevertheless he still managed to finish second at MSTCA Twilight, third at Mid-Wach B and eighth as top underclassman at Division 2 state meet in Ohio.

That was only the start of an amazing year for Balewicz. Following surgery to remove a bone spur in his left foot, he returned to practice within weeks and has never looked back – becoming two-time New England Champion in the process.

Achievement and Honors

Fall racing saw him finish third at the Bob McIntyre Invitational and eighth at the Division 2 state championships, earning underclassman of the Year honors and Mid-Wach B honors from his teammates. Furthermore, he received the Most Outstanding Runner award.

As well as his athletic success, Balewicz has received several honors off of the field. He was named to both the National Honor Society and Boston Globe’s All-Scholastic team.

As Nashoba senior, Nick Caruso opened up scoring early in the second period with a short wrist shot that beat Tomaszycki over his glove, followed by three goals on power plays from Billy Johns; finishing his hat trick off a power play goal from the slot after receiving an assist from Billy Johns elicited cheers of delight from Nashoba fans and scoring four times before time expired.

Personal Life

Balewicz is married to Antonina and has two children together with two siblings.

Nashoba started breaking open the game early in the third, thanks to hard work by DiBello and Balewicz along the boards, scoring on a power-play goal less than two minutes into the period and later scoring from the slot off of a feed from Johns for an unofficial five goal lead and sparking an onslaught of hats thrown onto the ice by fans.
