He has been practicing family medicine for over two decades, specializing in family medicine in North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia. Additionally, he belongs to both the American Academy of Family Physicians and North Carolina Medical Association as members.
He holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history from the University of Georgia, as well as one in public administration from State University of New York at Albany. In addition, two years were also spent coaching Bourne Braves of Cape Cod League.
Padgett took legal action when Auburn refused to invite Spencer. She hired Ku Klux Klan attorney and white nationalist Sam Dickson who filed suit against the university claiming its refusal was infringing upon Spencer’s First Amendment rights.
Achievement and Honors
He attended both Chipola Junior College and Marianna High School. Among his many hobbies are scuba diving, fishing and basketball – as well as watching TV shows such as Sports Center and The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air; movies include Transformers: Family Guy vs Transformers and Never Back Down.
Padgett cofounded and published Full Court Press from 1973 to 1988, publishing books by poets such as Allen Ginsberg and Joe Brainard. He taught and participated in poetry-in-the-school programs across the country.
He has over 14 years of experience in Family Practice. He is affiliated with numerous hospitals including Memorial Mission Hospital And Asheville Surgery Ce, Sentara Albemarle Medical Center Carteret General Hospital Carolina East Medical Center as well as having published various journal articles.
Personal Life
Padgett’s poetry resonates with an expressive tone. His work is personable and approachable, making his work even more accessible to its target audience. Over the course of his writing career he has published several collections of poetry as well as essays. Additionally he has received multiple awards and fellowships for his writing efforts.
His poems explore life’s small truths with humor and insight, working closely with visual artists on collaborative pieces. Additionally, he cofounded and edited Full Court Press; publishing books by poets like Allen Ginsberg and Joe Brainard.
Padgett lives in Marianna, Florida with his wife Julaine. He is blessed with three children and four grandchildren. As an active member of his community, he has served on several city councils and boards.
