Early Life and Education
Joseph Anthony Scotese was born in Utica, New York in 1922 and was the eldest son of Constantino and Erminia Scotese. He attended Proctor High School before going on to RPI of Troy New York for higher studies. While serving his military duty during World War II, Joseph Anthony joined General Electric Light and then Singer Link before retiring permanently in both Utica and Binghamton.
He has published multiple books and his maps are used extensively throughout geological textbooks, research papers and museums around the world. Currently residing in Binghamton but often making trips back home to Utica on special occasions to visit family.

Achievement and Honors
Scotese’s long career in business has earned him many accolades and awards, such as receiving the Horatio Alger Award for having come from modest beginnings, and being named Textile Man of the Year by Home Fashion Products Association. He is a member of the American Management Association and has held directorship positions at several major companies. Additionally, he is a trustee at Fashion Institute of Technology where he has served for 26 years, 13 of them as chairman. Spring Mills’ support for the arts has seen significant expansion under his watch, as evidenced by membership on both the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s business committee and Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science Boards of Trustees.
