Early Life and Education
Berry was raised by a mother who encouraged her to study and become educated, despite social expectations and limited economic resources; eventually earning employment as a telegrapher while continuing her studies at night.
She used mentorship to become one of Nashville’s first professional women in industrial arts and also dedicated herself to serving others, especially children and those in need.
Berry initiated a campaign in 1984 to bring awareness of apartheid in South Africa. She joined with TransAfrica and presented a petition at the embassy demanding Nelson Mandela be released, ultimately leading to its discontinuance and eventually leading to its end.

Berry alleges in his lawsuit against Current’s article that it falsely linked him with Simons and Clark’s departure and failed to mention how he worked with HR to address their performance issues. Unfortunately, neither Current nor Everhart have commented on these allegations; AU declined comment when approached for comment about this suit. Berry is seeking $10 Million damages as compensation for both defamation and invasion of privacy.
Achievement and Honors
Berry exudes warmth with every smile that shows you his glass is always half full. A blend of passion and determination, Berry stands out as someone with tireless work ethics who could change perceptions in our world around him.
Kallie is an active member of the 2022-23 student government association and strongly advocates for her campus community involvement. She plays alto saxophone in the Highland Cavalier Marching Band as well as tutoring students in logic and biology; additionally, she serves as Baptist student minister.
The Wise-Diggs-Berry Endowed OSU Arts Faculty Award was created by a couple to commemorate Malinda Blanche Wise Diggs (1898 graduate of Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College (now OSU), as well as her daughter Cynthalice Diggs Berry (1880). Their gift ensures long-term funding of Berry Summer Thesis Institute – providing Honors students between their sophomore and junior years access to intense disciplinary research opportunities.
