Brandy Daniels was found shot to death in her vehicle at the end of her parents’ driveway on May 5, 2014. Brandy’s sister went outside to check on her and discovered her dead body.
Detectives pored through thousands of pages of phone records that stretched to the ceiling in multiple time zones.
Early Life and Education
Brandy Alexander-Daniels hails from Hobgood, North Carolina and graduated with honors from East Carolina University. For over 10 years she worked in various roles at ECU such as student Resident Advisor, Hall Director and Assistant Director of Campus Living. Brandy enjoys working closely with students while being active in her community and mentoring young adults.
Detectives investigating Brandy Daniels’ murder conducted extensive phone records searches, spent numerous man hours conducting the investigation, and spent more than $100,000 on expenses associated with it before finding their answers. Two local men, Josh Daniels and Sirius Underwood both plead guilty to her death as well as several unrelated robberies that occurred nearby.
Her research explores intersections between constructive theologies and social ethics, feminist and queer theory, accounts of identity and community despite difference, as well as Bonhoeffer and Foucault on race identity, Eastern Orthodox apophatic theology and Lacanian psychoanalytic theory. She has published on topics ranging from those within these realms to Lacanian psychoanalytic theory.
Professional Career
Over two decades ago, Black girls of all ages marveled at Brandy’s curled microbraids swaying from her tiara as she played Disney’s first Black princess in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. Following this triumphant performance, she quickly rose to become an R&B superstar with hit singles such as “The Boy Is Mine” from Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella as well as her debut album Never Say Never.
In 2014, she was found murdered outside her Nashport home and this act would trigger an investigation that would span numerous states and years.
Her latest album, B7, marks a drastic departure in both production and vocal style from previous work – it also feels like an invigorating fresh start. She’s given space for younger artists such as daughter Sy’rai Iman Smith (who features on one track), rising ones such as Chloe Bailey of R&B duo Halle x Bey and other rising ones to take up her legacy.
Achievement and Honors
Brandy has published on topics ranging from Bonhoeffer’s exploration of racial identity to Foucault’s theories of power; poststructuralism to Eastern Orthodox apophatic theology and Lacanian psychoanalytic theory; as well as poststructuralism itself and Lacanian psychoanalytic theory. She regularly contributes to Women in Theology blog as a regular contributor. Furthermore, Brandy enjoys mentoring college students and recent graduates to foster growth and networking opportunities for them both personally and professionally.
T.Marzetti Company in Ohio and American Licorice Company in Illinois have both hired her as their data analytics and client insights consulting consultant, while Sears Holdings Corporation contracted her as their data analyst to forecast consumption across their retail brands, provide monthly executive reporting reports and fulfill any strategic data requests that arise.
Her most significant success came in 1998 with her debut album, The Boy Is Mine, a duet album with fellow R&B performer Monica. This record became an instant hit and won her the Grammy Award for Best Female Duet.
Personal Life
Brandy was an award-winning life coach who helped individuals through difficult times. Additionally, she served college students as the associate director of campus living and enjoyed cooking and mentoring young adults. Brandy leaves behind five sisters – Tessann, Vanessa, Kaitlin Chloe & Chelsey
Her sister discovered Daniels dead body at the end of their McCaslin Road driveway, shot three times. Shot instantly, Daniels died instantly with her carotid artery and jugular vein severing, according to authorities. Underwood plead guilty to aggravated murder, two counts of robbery, one conspiracy count against having weapons under disability status as well as theft; he received life in prison as punishment. Underwood and Daniels shared an association founded upon steroids use, weight lifting and carrying out armed robberies together, according to prosecutors.
