Meet Welding Instructor Brenda Weld

Kurt and Brenda first met through line dancing; neither expected they would end up running a welding school together. Yet the universe had other plans in store for them.

At their mom-and-pop shop, students from all walks of life come for tutoring services; referrals come mainly from WorkSource Spokane, Next Generation Zone, and Career Path Services – and their business is state licensed as well.

Early Life and Education

Brenda is married to Kurt, and they share one son named Zach. Together, they enjoy line dancing and enjoying wine together as well as mountain biking and hiking in Belgrade’s outdoors. With such a beautiful home for them to call their own, spending time there together is truly enjoyable.

Lonnie Benn and Brenda opened Anvil Welding Instruction seven years ago in a former John Deere retail site built in 1953 near Felts Field. The 2,400-square-foot building houses 17 welding machines. Lonnie and Brenda attract students from diverse backgrounds; referral agencies serve the working poor while Post-9/11 GI Bill users may fund their training here.

Brenda enjoys staying home with their son and being involved as a hands-on parent, in addition to welding, painting and metal art.

Professional Career

She attended night classes to become a lawyer; unfortunately she was unable to pass the bar exam due to financial constraints and instead chose welding as her passion, eventually becoming an accomplished welder and instructor at South Georgia Technical College’s Crisp County Center.

Brenda has an unconventional approach to her profession as she not only teaches welding techniques to her students but also encourages their artistic talents. She is known for transforming metal into sculptures and intricate designs through welding – she is truly one of many talents and has dedicated her life to helping others through SGTC – recently celebrating 19 years of service!
