Dave Moretzsohn, 84, of Berwyn, passed away on January 13, 2022

On January 13, 2022, Dave Moretzsohn, age 84, passed away. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends for his kindness, generosity and sense of humor.

Lou Moretzsohn founded J&L Building Materials in 1958, and his son Dave continues to carry on the family legacy of quality products and exceptional service.

Dave Moretzsohn has dedicated his career to aiding clients with a range of real estate transactions. His expertise encompasses acquisitions, dispositions and financings of commercial, residential and mixed-use properties.

He has extensive expertise with community development projects, LEED compliance, government funding and adaptive re-use of historic buildings. Additionally, he frequently teaches and lectures on real estate law topics including tax-efficient transactions.

David was born in Philadelphia and earned his undergraduate degree from Temple University. He then went on to receive his MBA from Drexel University, becoming a member of both the American Bar Association and Pennsylvania Bar Association. Nowadays he serves as president of J & L Building Materials Inc. with over three decades of experience under his belt, David has established himself as an esteemed leader within the industry while also passionately giving back to society.

Luiz Moretzsohn, who passed away in 2021, was a man of many accomplishments. He served on numerous local boards and was actively engaged in his community. He founded both the YMCA in Berwyn and Paoli Hospital Thrift Shop as well as initiating the Moretzsohn Family Foundation to benefit local charities within Chester County.

Marge Moretzsohn, who passed away in 2000, was an active philanthropist, working alongside her husband in their thrift shop business. Additionally, she joined other women of her church to finance a girl’s education in Honduras.

Personal Life

Dave was an energetic and social person who enjoyed spending time with friends. His passion for volunteering and helping those in need led him to join several charitable organizations such as Community Volunteers in Medicine, which provides medical services to Chester County’s poor. Furthermore, Dave and Marge have both been actively involved in numerous other outreach initiatives throughout their community.

His kindness, generosity and sense of humor earned him the admiration and respect of many in the community. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time at the beach; his family and friends will miss him deeply. A kind, generous man with an infectious laugh – these qualities will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
