David Goode Passes Away

David Goode was an icon in skiing history and a generous humanitarian. His passing Wednesday afternoon in a general aviation plane crash near Roy will be felt for years to come, leaving behind a lasting impact on all who knew him.

He pioneered many advancements in skiing, such as revolutionizing how ski poles were used. Additionally, he was an unwavering supporter of Ogden, Utah – where he moved his business and family – for which he won numerous accolades.

Early Life and Education

David Goode was born in 1966 and raised in Leek, Staffordshire. At sixteen years old he studied art at Sir Henry Doulton School of Sculpture before beginning work as a portrait sculptor for Madame Tussauds London.

Throughout his life, he has dedicated himself to many pursuits. He was an inspiring coach for young athletes, an accomplished songwriter, and an acclaimed artist who captures natural landscapes through his paintings and drawings.

He has dedicated his life to serving the community and serving God. He has served on the board of directors for several organizations and volunteered in countless ways. Currently, he’s working to restore Carver High School in Phoenix, Arizona – his alma mater.

David Goode achieved great success as CEO of Norfolk Southern Corporation, while also dedicating himself to philanthropy by sitting on numerous boards for arts organizations.

He has long been an enthusiastic supporter of the Chrysler Museum and recently donated two of his largest gifts to date – a $2.5 million donation for a Goode Works on Paper Center that will enhance public access to photographs, drawings, prints and other works on paper that make up one-third of their collection.

He currently serves as organist at First Congregational Church in Los Angeles, home to the world’s largest church organ (see CD). A professional musician since 1999, his experience includes performances across Europe, North America and South America.
