David Hosch dedicated his life to saving dogs. He worked at Kansas City English Bulldog Rescue.
According to member Shannon Smith, this volunteer would brave freezing temperatures and treacherous roads just to save a dog – in total he saved 19 of them over the past 18 months alone, according to member reports.
Early Life and Education

Professional Career
David Hosch has extensive experience as a practicing attorney, working with public and private entities alike to secure financing. Additionally, his energy and building industry experience has given him extensive insight into capital planning, strategic growth and operational management matters for clients.
John was passionate about helping animals in need throughout his career, serving as a volunteer transport driver at Always & Furever Midwest Animal Sanctuary in Spring Hill as a volunteer transport driver. Additionally, he was an ardent Atlanta Braves fan and passionate chef.
He was also an enthusiastic traveler, adept at finding great hotel, restaurant and attraction deals. Additionally, he saw travel as an invaluable means of exploring other cultures and increasing cross-cultural understanding.
Achievement and Honors
David Hosch was both an incredible athlete and student, garnering numerous honors and awards throughout his life.
He was an outstanding baseball player and an enthusiastic supporter of children’s charities, winning both the Branch Rickey Award and Lou Gehrig Memorial Award – given annually to major league players with strong giving characteristics.
He was also an attentive father and husband who strived to ensure all his children thrived in life. Additionally, he served as President of his church and volunteered his services for various organizations.
Personal Life
David Hosch was passionate about animals. As owner and operator of Sunflower Animal Transport, he traveled all across the United States helping rescue creatures of various kinds.
At work and play alike, he loved travel and adventure – often accompanying students from the University of Kansas on study abroad excursions.
Mr. VanSickel has also been an invaluable benefactor to both the College of the Holy Cross Dean’s Fund and VanSickel Student Support Fund, both providing assistance for students wishing to travel overseas for education purposes.
He was an avid kayaker who found great pleasure in paddling, so thanks to a team of students from the University of Kansas he now has access to a specially designed trailer which allows him to load and unload his kayak himself.
