David Bernard McFall was a Scottish Artist and Sculptor who died on December 12, 1919.
Born in Glasgow, he received his education at three different institutions: Junior School of Arts and Crafts Birmingham; Royal College of Art London; and City and Guilds Art School.
He collaborated with Jacob Epstein for 15 years, producing significant works such as Bull Calf; Boy and Horse and Blackhorse Road Station’s black horse mural as well as a monumental statue of Winston Churchill.

McFall was one of the founding members of London’s Royal Academy of Art, and among his numerous accolades is being known as one of the last sculptors to accurately recreate Sir Winston Churchill from life. Additionally, he holds the record for exhibiting the largest stone sculpture on Royal Academy grounds and became the first sculptor ever elected a Royal Academician; one of only a select few to hold both memberships simultaneously; his works remain in numerous collections worldwide.

To everyone’s amazement. Mac decided to study astrophysics and biochemistry as his majors, leading him to land on the Dean’s List and win numerous accolades and awards, such as membership on his school’s Leadership Council. McFall stands out among his many accomplishments with his contributions to astrophysics research community, where his work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and won him various accolades. What stands out most is how McFall combined his astrophysics background with his passions for music and art – something few other astrophysicians could match!

His lifelong interest in travel and environmental conservation led him to found Nature Expeditions International (NEI). This company provided participants with educational experiences through exploring nature, exploring various cultures, and building close ties with scholars from its host countries.
After running NEI for twenty years, David and Nola Woodbury moved to Eugene, Oregon where they lived in a Lazy Daze RV and traveled extensively throughout the US by bike – cycling across Oregon’s vast terrain and paddling along Maine’s Allagash Wilderness Waterway.
