Our ATV and quad tire comparison test in the Special 2015 has already clearly shown that we are actually on the wrong soles with our predominant use on the road on off-road tires like a Maxxis Bighorn. After all, the high knobs of the off-roader tend to form ‘teeth’ after around 2,000 kilometers, which leads to an increasing deterioration in handling. The test was won by the ‘Ceros’ that Maxxis recommends for on-road tours: a top tire that works off-road but is better on the road.
ATV and quad tire comparison test: Sacksteder team in action
The big-treaded Bighorn profile took the hearts of the German roughnecks by storm, so it was clear that we would examine the off-roaders again at this point. As in 2015, the test was organized by the Sacksteder team this time: the entourage around the quad and tire dealer from Saarlouis toured around 2,000 kilometers in mid-September 2016 with eight heavy ATVs around 2,000 kilometers through southern France. The test vehicles were an Arctic Cat Alterra 700, five Can-Am Outlander, a Kawasaki KVF 750 and a Yamaha Kodiak 700; the temperatures were around 25° Celsius and we covered about 200 kilometers in the rain over wet roads. In order to determine the mileage, the tires were then used on the guided tours of the quad dealer in Saarland. In short: Test conditions that correspond to the everyday use of most ATV pilots in Germany.
