George Lally

George Lally was a pageant master, theatre producer and actress who only played male roles. She was renowned for her striking appearance and masculine fashion choices. George lally created historical pageants that recreated events from history with large ensembles of amateur actors.

George is survived by two daughters, Linda (Mark) Barry of St. Paul and Lisa (Kent) Heusinkveld of Stewartville; five grandchildren: Shannon Barry, Alanna Barry, John (Liz) Barry, Ryan (Jen) Heusinkveld and Maggie Purinton; as well as seven great-grandchildren.

George Lally was an outstanding linebacker for Cornell University and earned himself three Coaches All-Ivy first team selections as well as receiving the esteemed Associated Press All-American honorable mention. Additionally, he was part of the Ivy League Silver Anniversary first team.

He earned the distinction of three-time Ivy League All-Football captain and earned himself the prestigious Tom O’Brien Award for a college football career that spanned six years and three divisions. Additionally, his college career included time spent playing for Memphis Southmen of the World Football League where he started at middle linebacker and led his team in tackles.

Lally’s accomplishments were truly remarkable, and were complemented by his devotion to family and community. As a beloved husband to Linda Barry and proud father to Lisa (Kent) Heusinkveld, Lally will be fondly remembered by his many friends and family for his unfailing commitment to philanthropy, kindness and an affinity for animals.

Personal Life

George Lally was an inspiring sportsman and champion for children to play baseball. As a coach, umpire and League President in South Boston area, he contributed significantly to growing Babe Ruth program over many years.

He was elected State Commissioner for the Massachusetts Babe Ruth Leagues and served on the International Babe Ruth League Board of Directors. Beyond his work in baseball, he has also contributed his time and talent to charitable organizations throughout Massachusetts.

He continued his ministry as an ordained priest within the church until being transferred to San Diego’s Diocese in the 1970s.
