George Lambros – A Lifelong Greek American
George Lambros was a renowned businessman who owned and operated Diana Restaurant in Oneonta for four decades. He also enjoyed great fame among his family members as father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
On October 23, 2017, he passed away. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Oneonta Community College Foundation.
Early Life and Education
George has a background in both electronics and education, having worked across numerous fields. From designing and testing controllers for battery powered vehicles to creating more specialized controllers, his passion for electronics was cemented by sheer determination and an unquenchable spirit that drove him towards this career path.
George was born and raised in Huntington, West Virginia with his parents and siblings. Later he wed Mary Sue Hughes and settled back there permanently.
George and Mary had been happily married for 50 years, raising three sons together as well as several grandchildren.

George Lambros is an investment banker and member of the Alliance for the Ethical Treatment of Pain Patients. He has been married to Karen Duffy since 1997.
She is an acclaimed model, actress, writer and television personality from the United States of America. She has written two books about her experiences living with chronic pain that have become best-selling books.
She achieved fame as a certified hospital chaplain, former Coney Island Mermaid Queen and one of People Magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People” in 1993. Unfortunately, her glittering social life began to unravel when she was diagnosed with sarcoidosis.
She wrote her first book, Model Patient, which thrust her into the spotlight and gave her an opportunity to help others. Since then, she has become a strong champion for those suffering from chronic pain.

George joined Alghanim Industries as Corporate Controller in 2009 and eventually transitioned to Chief Human Resources Officer. Throughout his tenure with the company, he has made significant contributions towards corporate finance and controls functions, as well as spearheading recruitment and engagement initiatives within HR.
He has served as an advisor to numerous organizations involved in clean energy and water. Furthermore, he strongly advocates for undergraduate education in experimental mechanics, having mentored more than 1,500 students throughout his career.

Early in his life in Oneonta, he worked at his father Harry’s Diana Restaurant. As a volunteer, he contributed his time and expertise to numerous local organizations and became actively involved within the community.
He served in the Army, was twice wounded, and earned himself the Purple Heart.
George is survived by his beloved wife Mary and their four daughters JoAnn Pavlostathis, Kathy Curran, Georgia Lambros, and Donna Foti. Additionally, he leaves behind many adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren to cherish his memory.
