George powers has served on the Midlands Technical College Commission since 2009 and currently serves as its Chair.

He boasts over 5,000 flying hours and is an esteemed Air Force pilot with numerous military awards to his name, such as a Legion of Merit medal with an oak leaf cluster and Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters.

Early Life and Education

George Powers was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. After attending Saint Patrick’s School and working at a leather concern while earning his education, Powers entered Maryknoll Seminary in 1915.

His Bachelor’s degree in history from Catholic University culminated with a dissertation focusing on the early days of the Society.

Father Powers later joined the Order of Maryknoll, being ordained on June 15, 1924. Initially assigned to teach at Venard Abbey, he later served on the Superior General’s Council and also served as Rector of Mountain View. Unfortunately, Father Powers passed away on January 8th 1963 and was buried at Mountain View Abbey.

Professional Career

Powers is currently the Senior Vice President of Global Human Resources for Schneider Electric’s Smart Infrastructure Division, where he oversees the integration of a $1 billion global workforce.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in speech communications from Trinity University and an Juris Doctor from the University of Houston Law Center. Additionally, he serves on the HR Corporate Leadership Council at Purdue University’s Krannert School of Management.

He began his teaching career as an English teacher for the Mancos School District in 1969, teaching grades 10, 11, and 12. Principals during this final academic contract year included James Spurlock for the first semester and Mr. Barbick for the second semester; both positions held simultaneously.

Achievements and Honors

George was an enthusiastic admirer of art, literature and music. He had many admirers among great poets such as William Wordsworth who expressed their appreciation of his taste in art through their letters to him.

He was an accomplished businessman, founding Marcus & Millichap – one of the world’s largest commercial real estate firms.

He was also a passionate philanthropist. He founded the George Washington scholarship initiative Power & Promise, which offers scholarships to students regardless of financial need.

Personal Life

George Powers is an acclaimed businessman and entrepreneur. He founded American Port Services, a logistics provider with more than 13 million square feet of warehouse space spread out across multiple states.

The company is headquartered in Savannah, Georgia with locations across the US including Charleston, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles and Seattle.

Powers has extensive experience in the logistics industry and currently serves on the board of directors for Georgia Ports Authority where he also chairs its executive committee. A graduate of the University of Arizona with a master’s degree in business administration, Powers also brings leadership skills to this role.

He was born on February 24th, 1895 in Boston, Massachusetts and grew up in Tucson, Arizona. In 1954 he joined the Air Force and was commissioned a second lieutenant.
