Jack Dickey is an award-winning journalist for Time Magazine. His numerous articles were selected for publication and won him the 2015 Nellie Bly Cub Reporter award from the New York Press Club.
Jack currently works at Slaughter and May as a competition lawyer, where he specializes in merger control. Additionally, he has assisted various clients during antitrust investigations.
Early Life and Education
Jack Dickey was born in Greeley, Colorado and raised on his family farm near Eaton. After attending local high school he enlisted with the United States Navy where he served on an anti-ship missile destroyer escort escort crew before graduating both Oregon State University and Colorado State University (formerly Colorado A&M).
He finds great enjoyment from golfing and spending time with his dogs in his free time, as well as football and travel – three passions which drive him. Additionally, he manages various recruitment pathways to onboard fellows for social change work.
From January 2011 to July 2013 he wrote for Gawker Media’s Deadspin before transitioning to Time magazine as a reporter from 2013-2016, winning the Nellie Bly Cub Reporter Award along the way. Cover stories written for Time included Taylor Swift and the disappearing American vacation, along with featured profiles of Jason Chaffetz, Nate Silver and Alton Brown.

Jack Dickie is an award-winning journalist who has contributed articles to Deadspin, TIME and other publications, covering sports to politics topics – most notably by breaking the story about Manti Te’o’s suspected catfish girlfriend. Dickie is also a member of New York NewsGuild; one of his more memorable achievements being breaking this story first!
Jack is also an accomplished guitarist and has mastered electric, slide, and acoustic styles of the guitar. He has performed alongside artists such as Doc Watson, Honey Boy Edwards and Yank Rachell – opening their shows. Jack Dickie is a two-time Jeopardy! champion and two-time New York Times Best Selling author, as well as former Time Magazine staff writer. Additionally, he co-broke Manti Te’o’s story with Gawker Sports Blog Deadspin where he currently works as editor-at-large.
As well as his writing work, he is an active member of both the New York Press Club and NewsGuild, as well as having spoken at TEDx events and been interviewed on The New Yorker Radio.
Past Virginia State President of the Society of War of 1812 and active in Clan McPherson, Order of Saint Constantine and Knights Templar; Clan McPherson membership included eight grandchildren. Clara Dickie of Swift Current Saskatchewan; daughter Orla Noon from Medicine Hat Saskatchewan and son Dennis Dickie from Pennant Saskatchewan as well as 2 brothers and two sisters are his survivors.

Additionally, he belongs to NewsGuild of New York and Communications Workers of America; being an avid Mets fan he often expresses his displeasure when they fail to produce results he wishes for.
He enjoys performing music in his free time and has performed at various venues and is an accomplished guitarist. Blind Willie Johnson and Rev. Gary Davis serve as inspirations, while many songs he has composed have yet to be released as downloads.
