Jenny John

A British-born field hockey coach, Jenny John has spent 40 years in Canada weaving her thread into the fabric of BC’s sport. Her work has helped develop the game in this country and beyond.

Her most recent play, “John,” is a gentle, atmospheric, and eerie drama about loneliness, communication, and the question of whether objects have souls.

Early Life and Education

Jenny john was born on August 21, 1977, in England. She was raised in Oxfordshire and attended King Alfred’s School, Wantage, where she studied English and drama.

She later pursued a career in music and became a lead vocalist in a band. She also honed her comedy skills and began touring around the country.

In 1986, she won the “Star Search” Comedy Grand Prize and a check for $100,000. The award gave her a newfound confidence and helped her pursue a successful performing career.

She was also a star on television, where she hosted the syndicated daytime tabloid talk show Jenny Jones from September 1991 to September 2003. Her show topped the charts and earned her a national audience. She has also funded her own scholarship program for disadvantaged students.

In addition, they have collaborated with area partners to launch a youth soccer academy that gives local youth an opportunity to develop their skills through the game of soccer.

Jennifer has spent the past eight years leveraging her talents to address issues of food justice/sovereignty, climate change, mass incarceration and police brutality. She is a Green For All Fellow, BoldFood Fellow and Artist in Residence at Food First.
