Jim Leven is the General Partner and President of Community Broadcasters LLC, which owns 15 radio stations across 5 markets in the Northeast. With more than three decades of experience in broadcast media, Jim is known as an industry expert.
Jim saw that, from an outsider’s point of view, the gossiping crowd seemed to be doing quite well with their limited share of risk and toil.
Early Life and Education
At the turn of the 17th century, wealthy young men from Northern Europe would travel to Italy on cultural pilgrimages known as Grand Tours, like those undertaken by Jim Leven and Graham Hamilton from Queensland in 1948.
Both architects quickly relocated back to Queensland but later worked in New York on documentation of the United Nations headquarters designed by an international collaboration of architects from eleven nations – among them GA (Gyle) Soillieux from Melbourne-trained architect GA Soillieux of France as well as Oscar Niemeyer from Brazil.
Jim Leven serves as President at Community Broadcasters LLC of Watertown, New York. Previously he owned and operated 15 stations spread over 5 markets throughout the Northeast region. Jim co-hosts a weekend political talk show called Life Liberty & Levin with Bruce Mittman.
Professional Career
Jim has shared many humorous tales throughout his 52 years in radio, from when he got fired for not accepting sexual advances from his boss to now serving The North Country with Community Broadcasters – always making you laugh along the way!
Jim Leven and Alan Graham Hamilton worked for the Queensland Works Department; Hamilton in Schools Branch while Leven served Construction Branch. Both architects also served in Military Services during World War II.
Bruce Mittman and Jim Leven co-own Community Broadcasters. Since 2006, this company has acquired and operated stations in Watertown/Ogdensburg NY, Elmira/Corning NY, Oswego NY Watertown SC Sumter SC Orangeburg SC markets as well as offering consulting solutions to media marketing advertising clients. Jim offers his team comprehensive business solutions.
Achievement and Honors
Jim Leven was honored with Penn State Hotel and Restaurant Society’s 2014 Hospitality Executive of the Year award on November 9 at Nittany Lion Inn on Penn State University Park campus during a reception held for him.
Leven founded US Franchise Systems in 1995 to develop and franchise Microtel Inns & Suites hotels, as well as Hawthorn Suites hotels. He also serves on the boards of numerous hospitality organizations like Asian American Hotel Owners Association and Americas Lodging Investment Summit.
He has received multiple honors, such as the American Jewish Committee Selig Distinguished Service Award and UJA Federation of New York Spirit of Hospitality Award. Additionally, he was inducted into the International Hotel and Restaurant Investment Conference Hall of Fame.
Personal Life
Jim takes great pleasure in bowling; his resume includes 23 perfect 300 games and 6-800 series! In his free time he also enjoys traveling.
He is co-owner of Community Broadcasters LLC which owns radio stations in Elmira/Corning, Watertown, Ogdensburg Olean Florence South Carolina and Orangeburg South Carolina markets. A thirty year veteran in marketing/advertising and broadcasting.
He was previously married to actress Ciera Parrack and has two children with her. Currently he is engaged to actress Leven Rambin; they plan to marry at Le San Michele – a limestone farmhouse boasting European formal gardens and fountains that is set up as an intimate wedding ceremony venue – in November 2019. Both will enter second marriages – their first was two years long!
