John bu is the leader of The Pogues, a group of working class teens on the Outer Banks. Together with his friends, they set out to recover the gold from the Royal Merchant wreck and uncover what happened to his father.
John B never lost his desire to help others and spend time with his friends. He is a loyal friend who will always be there when you need someone.
Early Life and Education
John Bu was born with a stump on his right arm, which caused him to be ridiculed by other children and require use of a splint until age four. Growing up, John bu had much difficulty fitting in but eventually was accepted into Trinity University in San Antonio and eventually became an associate professor there. In 1961 he was named chair of the philosophy department at University of Texas Austin and served as dean of Arts & Sciences until 1970 when he left UT to become president of Boston University; following this term he returned to teaching international relations courses there as professor for Boston University.
Achievements and Honors
John Bu is an inspiring scientist, visionary leader, and dedicated mentor who has made major advances in geoarchaeology as well as public education and outreach. Furthermore, John bu was a pioneer of technologies that set the stage for cloud storage and superserver architecture.
He has received many honors, such as the Middlebury Alumni Association Alumni Achievement Award and a Lifetime Contribution Award from the National Center for Supercomputing Applications. Currently he serves as administrator for the federal Department of Employment and Training Administration in Washington D.C.
He is a two-time recipient of the esteemed Grimes Honoree Award, given to an BU graduate who has attended only two Homecomings or never missed an Alumni Day during their lifetime. Through his selfless acts of kindness and concern for others, he has set an exemplary example for all BU alumni.
Personal Life
John Bu is a customer service supervisor at Brooklyn Processing and Distribution Center. He enjoys collecting baseball and sports trading cards, especially iconic Mickey Mantle and Albert Pujols cards.
Former Boston University president, he was often the target of public criticism for his decisions to raise tuition and for his approach to governance. In 1990, he ran for governor of Massachusetts but ultimately lost to Republican candidate William Weld.
Today, John and his wife Ericka live on the road – in a restored blue and white school bus – during their summers at Glacier Park, Montana, and Snowshoe Resort, West Virginia; while spending winters in San Francisco, California.
