As consultant for the Bernard Osher Foundation and trustee on 17 boards, he was an enthusiastic supporter of arts, higher education, and served on Portland Museum of Art’s board. Sadly, his life will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

John DiMatteo was one of the original founders of what would later become known as The DiMatteo Group, an insurance agency with a prestigious name. Their headquarters at 79 Bridgeport Avenue offer an array of services from business and personal insurance to financial advice, accounting and tax preparation. John’s siblings Loretta, Rosemarie and Victoria are all active participants within the business in various capacities.

He had an interest in film, having played a minor role in George A. Romero’s Surviving the Dead and appearing as a miracle worker in Absolution (TV movie). Aside from his business success, he was also a dedicated family man who enjoyed golfing and playing poker – his passing being a sad loss to Cumberland County.
