Early Life and Education
John Dimkos was born on January 1, 1923 in Kato Ydrousa, Florina, Greece to Lazarus Dimkos and Maria Dimkos (Papou). Raised in Syracuse, New York, he earned a degree from Syracuse University with a major in accounting before attending City College of New York for another two years. For over 30 years John worked in the financial industry.
He was married to Elaine P Dimkos for many years, and they currently reside in Syracuse, New York. Together they have three children and numerous grandchildren.
Sophia Dimkos, 91, of Camillus passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 12, 2015. Born in Kato Ydrousa, Greece and immigrating to America in 1937, she owned Willis Ave. Market for over 35 years with her husband Chris before working at McCarthy’s Restaurant for many years before that. A communicant of St. Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Church and former Sunday school teacher for St. Sophia’s Greek Festival since its beginnings, Sophia was also well known for her delicious spanakopita; chairing the Pita booth during these 35 years was something special to her!
Achievements and Honors
John Dimkos has received numerous awards and honors throughout his life, including founding both the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Assn. (AHEPA) and Pan Macedonian Assn. Additionally, he was a member of the Philoptochos Society.
He currently resides in Syracuse, NY with his wife Elaine P Dimkos. They’ve lived at this address since March 1986 but previously lived at 18 different addresses before settling on 520 Plymouth Dr. They boast an impressive collection of trinkets and other memorabilia; one tidbit they are especially proud of being owners of!

The Dimkos family has a long-standing presence in Syracuse, NY. They currently reside at 520 Plymouth Dr and have lived there for around 36 years; previously they lived at 101 Sunnycrest Rd (Syracuse NY 13206) and 1000 Willis Ave (Syracuse NY 13204).
They have a son, Nicholas Dimkos of Syracuse; daughter Phillip Dimkos (Shiela) of Camillus; son-in-law Don Christo of Camillus; daughter-in-law Diane Peters from Baldwinsville; brother George Dimkos from Kato Ydrousa in Florina, Greece; sister Magdoline Dimkos also of Kato Ydrousa and sister-in-law Anastasia Dimkos from Kato Ydrousa New York. Additionally they are survived by many grandchildren such as Christos Dimkos Sophia Dimkos (Sean Wallace), John Peters (Emily), Joey Peters and Tia Rodrigues plus great grandchildren Oscar Rodrigues and Ellie Sophia Peters.
