John Schipper was born on March 26, 1928 in Grant, Michigan to John and Sarah (Mouthaan) Schipper.

His life was filled with accomplishments; he worked as a farmer and owned his own livestock trucking company, plus was an active member of Martin Reformed Church. Married to Leona for 44 years, John enjoyed farming life immensely while their three children John, Jim, and Barb followed in their footsteps.

He is survived by his wife, Leona; sons John and Jim; as well as six grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and sisters.

John Schipper has had an illustrious professional career spanning multiple fields. His expertise encompasses chemical kinetics, polymers, material science, computer algorithms, applied math control systems, compute science, electromagnetic effects, nuclear effects and physical optics.

He possesses a diverse background in engineering and patent law. Additionally, he is actively engaged with the Albert Lea Entrepreneur Advancement Program, connecting local entrepreneurs with resources.

Schipper has previously displayed his art at various museums. One of Schipper’s installations was featured at the Armory Show in 2015.

He has also included physicality into his performance art. In 2015, he created Million Dollar Walk (2015), an installation that invites visitors to walk around Pier 94 with an armored suitcase filled with one million dollars in cash.

Schipper was instrumental in building Central’s athletics program into one of the premier programs in the Midwest. Under his direction, Central won seven NCAA Div. III national team championships and 18 Iowa Conference all-sports titles.
