John Wildfong
John Wildfong is a retired professional hockey coach and currently coaches the Lone Star Brahmas of the North American Junior Hockey League (NAHL).
He was born on August 5, 1918 in Illinois to Harvey Louis Wildfong and Lulu N Wildfong.
Early Life and Education
John Wildfong was born on the month of 1840 to Elijah Wildfong and Agnes Nancy Wildfong (nee Mosser) in his birthplace. He had nine siblings.
He married Catherine Ann Wildfong in 1861 at the age of 20 years.
After his marriage, he pursued education and earned a degree in engineering from the University of Michigan. Additionally, he served as a Navy reservist and was involved in community affairs. Survived by his beloved wife Carol, he will always remain an inspiration to those around him.
Professional Career
Wildfong, a professional hockey player since 1999, is a beloved figure among fans in Shreveport and Bossier City. His tireless work ethic and contagious personality perfectly showcase his tenacity on the ice.
He was a part of the Mudbugs’ Western Professional Hockey League championship teams (2000, 2001) and played for Colorado in the Central Hockey League from 2006-07. Additionally, he served as coach in both CHL and NAHL competitions.
He is an accomplished teacher, and his pharmaceutics courses have earned him awards from the dean of pharmacy, first-year professional student pharmacists, and Omicron Delta Kappa national leadership honor society. Furthermore, he inspired young minds in sciences and engineering by instructing elementary school children at the 2012 USA Science & Engineering Festival.
Achievements and Honors
He’s been recognized for his effective pedagogy, which helps students learn and retain information. Additionally, he is a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa national leadership honor society.
He has earned teaching awards from the dean of pharmacy and first-year professional student pharmacists, as well as an Omicron Delta Kappa scholarship. At University of North Carolina’s School of Pharmacy, he teaches pharmaceutics and chemistry classes.
Wildfong’s coaching resume includes two seasons with the Texas Brahmas of the CHL. Additionally, he was an assistant coach for North American junior hockey team in NAHL that won a league title last season.
Personal Life
John Wildfong was born on June 8 1885 in Michigan to Amos Wildfong and Barbara Funk.
John was raised in a loving family despite his parents’ sometimes contentious relationship. He enjoyed an extensive career in manufacturing and also enjoyed sailing passionately.
In the early 1960s, he cofounded a folk band with friend Jackie Bowles that cowrote and performed their Citizen’s Bank Weather Ball jingle. Additionally, he had great support for Henderson County Humane Society causes.
On December 1974, he passed away at 89 years old and was buried in Cadillac Memorial Gardens East, Charter Township of Clinton, Michigan. Survived by his wife and children, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he is also predeceased by several siblings.
