Bazemore was born and educated at Bertie High School in Kelford, North Carolina. As an outstanding athlete he earned Northeast North Carolina Coastal Conference Player of the Year honors as well as Roanoke-Chowan Player of the Year recognitions in his senior year, as well as first team All-State status. After graduation he signed with Atlanta Hawks.
