University of Maine Committee Liam Lesakowski

Liam Lesakowski of Salisbury School announced on Friday his commitment to play for University of Maine as an early entrant prospect, having played this past season with Rochester Coalition 18-U under Kyle Quick.

Amy battled breast cancer before succumbing to it in 2009, and treatments at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center helped extend her life.

Professional Career

Liam Lesakowski has enjoyed an outstanding rookie campaign with Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of the United States Hockey League. As a 6-foot-4 defenseman he looks forward to competing before UMaine fans at Alfond Arena when joining next fall.

He is an extremely skilled and results-oriented professional with experience in intelligence and special operations, boasting an outstanding track record in successfully overcoming complex obstacles while leading teams in high pressure environments.

Lesakowski also founded Community Shift in Buffalo – a hockey-oriented fundraising event which raised over $225,000 for Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, Make-A-Wish and Camp Good Days and Special Times in 2017. This year’s event will take place from June 23 through July 3 at Harborcenter.

Achievement and Honors

Liam Lesakowski is an athletic defenseman currently making his USHL debut with Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of United States Hockey League. A commit to University of Maine, Lesakowski competed at Salisbury School and Rochester Coalition 18-under AAA Team led by Kyle Quick prior to enrolling with Cedar Rapids.

Lesakowski has amassed 6 goals and 12 assists during 93 games thus far in his NHL career, in addition to participating in Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, Make-A-Wish Foundation and Camp Good Days and Special Times’ Community Shift charity event, which raised funds.

He’s looking forward to playing for Alfond Arena and its loyal and passionate Black Bear fans.

Personal Life

Liam Lesakowski has long been an advocate for cancer research and fundraising efforts. His mother Amy battled against it for some time before being taken care of at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo – she ultimately overcame it and lived long enough to see her son, daughters, and grandchildren grow up!

Cedar Rapids RoughRiders defenseman Michael Lapka is committed to the University of Maine and being mentored by Black Bears associate head coach Andy Barr. Despite missing part of his prep season in 20-21 due to coronavirus illness, this Buffalo native excelled at Rochester Coalition 18-under AAA team led by Kyle Quick and Salisbury School under Andrew Will.

Lesakowski is looking forward to playing at Alfond Arena before the passionate and energetic fans from UMaine. He anticipates an “intense atmosphere”. Additionally, Lesakowski looks forward to joining some of the finest players from across the nation at one of Maine’s premier programs.
