Mase is one of twin fraternal twins born two months premature. His mother relocated the children to Harlem, New York to escape an abusive spouse, where they spent much of their childhood playing hooky, gambling and chasing girls through the streets of 139th Street and Lenox Avenue. Throughout these formative years, Mase indulged in all types of illicit behavior including playing hooky from school, gambling excessively and engaging in risky sexual encounters on his way.
