Noah Woodruff has made quite the mark as a college coach. In his inaugural season as Tennessee Vols head coach, he led them to 21 victories – marking back-to-back 20-win campaigns since 2010.

Woodruff’s second year was even better, leading the Texas team to an SEC Tournament title and reaching the NCAA semifinals. Furthermore, he assisted graduate student Adam Walton and sophomore Johannus Monday in earning All-American status from ITA Singles Tennis Awards.

Woodruff’s selection of international superstars and 19 in-state players has led to a resurgence of team success for UT. Additionally, his expertise on professional tours worldwide has proven instrumental in helping students pursue world-class tennis careers post-college eligibility ends.

Achievement and Honors

At PCHS’ Senior Awards Night ceremony last Thursday evening, several students were honored for their achievements at Senior Awards Night. Class valedictorian Taylor Tegtmeyer received a scholarship sponsored by PCHS and Citizens Bank of West Virginia; Mathias Solliday and Logan Woodruff both won Orr Lee McMann awards given out specifically to those studying Career and Technical fields at postsecondary institutions.

The Tucker Community Endowment Scholarship fund awards scholarships to students living in Pocahontas, Randolph and Tucker counties. Emalee Arbogast received one this year; Alice Rowan Waugh Memorial Scholarship goes towards student pursuing four-year degrees; while three seniors receiving CTE education received Jacob Jones and Jarod Liptrap’s award this year.

Personal Life

Woodruff has lived his entire life in Knoxville and takes great pleasure in spending time with his children and grandchildren. Additionally, he enjoys traveling; having visited various countries as well as zip lining in Costa Rica!

Woodruff has made Tennessee known for team success at NCAA championship semifinals multiple times during his time there, finishing second in dual match standings this year and earning a top-10 national ranking. Furthermore, his players have experienced success individually too: in 2021 Woodruff guided Pat Harper and Adam Walton to an NCAA doubles title; Johannus Monday became Tennessee’s inaugural SEC Player of the Year 2023!

Woodruff’s picture books The Wing Shop and Show and Tell have received extensive acclaim, earning critical acclaim from The Horn Book review. Stephen Gammell’s exuberant illustrations add depth and dimension to this delightful tale, helping it reach more than three million copies sold since publication.
