Noel Bosh
Noel Bosh and His Son Chris Bosh at Hoops Heaven
Noel Bosh often took Chris, his 8-year-old son, to Phelps Recreation Center to Hoops Heaven on summer Saturday mornings – an unusually-shaped basketball court that would not pass YMCA inspection, with its battered rims that became damaged from being dunked on by dunk-happy boys who quickly fell in love with basketball. It provided ample opportunity for young fans to fall into its fold and discover its depths.
Chris and Adrienne Bosh have raised five children together (two are twins named Phoenix and Lennox). Nonetheless, their roots in Dallas remain deep.
Early Life and Education
Chris Bosh’s blood runs thick with basketball. Raised by parents Freida and Noel in Hutchins, Texas, Chris’ mother Freida immersed him and younger brother Joel in this unique sport from an early age.
Bosh came from modest origins but displayed remarkable talent and character that earned him international renown. Drafted into the NBA at age 20, he quickly established himself as one of its dominant players as well as an all-star performer on a global stage.
Bosh led Lincoln High School in Dallas to an undefeated 40-0 season and state title as well as being named number-one nationally by USA Today. After receiving significant recruiting offers from college coaches, he ultimately decided on Georgia Tech where Coach Paul Hewitt could support him in fulfilling his goals of playing professionally.
Professional Career
Bosh’s game features elegant moves that render fast-paced life seem slow-motion effortless. His unflappable voice lends him the ability to absorb and defuse any opposition on the court.
Noel Bosh and Chris, then 8-years-old, traveled together from their southern Dallas home to John C. Phelps Recreation Center – or “Hoops Heaven”, as it then known – where Noel would show him around a peculiar outdoor court shaped like an hour glass and featuring two nonstandard rims that wouldn’t pass YMCA or NBA standards – perfect for an 8-year-old becoming fascinated with basketball while his dad would bond and bounce along side.
Today, Lennox Noel Bosh (known by his nickname Lenny) plays for the Miami Heat alongside his father Chris and brother Phoenix – they are widely respected for their teamwork and championship runs.
Achievement and Honors
Christopher Wesson Bosh was born to Noel and Freida Bosh of Dallas and raised there alongside his brother in Hutchins, a small town nearby. Both his parents instilled values of family as well as discipline through work and education into him, with him beginning playing basketball around four years old before learning how to dribble by fourth grade; additionally he continued playing baseball up until high school graduation.
At Lincoln High School in Dallas, he helped his team win the USA Today National Championship with a perfect 40-0 record. For his outstanding efforts during that season, he earned numerous accolades such as Basketball America High School Player of the Year, Texas Powerade Player of the Year, Parade and McDonald’s First Team All-American status and earned himself the nickname of “Mr. Basketball.”
In 2016, due to blood clot issues in his leg, he was forced to retire. To show our respects and commemorate him, Miami Heat president Pat Riley retired his No. 1 jersey as a tribute.
Personal Life
Bosh also enjoys playing guitar and brewing beer; he owns the Daddy Jack Records music label; is actively involved with raising funds for charitable causes such as AIDS Foundation of Florida; and speaks out about reading with children.
