Shana Daniels
Shana Askew Daniels spent days caring for her injured husband after an unfortunate car accident when she noticed a lump in her breast and requested an examination and biopsy to be performed.
Shana was diagnosed with cancer, yet managed to fight against it successfully until her passing at age 44 on Monday.
Early Life and Education
Shana Daniels was born and raised in Vinita, Oklahoma with her family. She attended Vinita High School before embarking on mission trips through her church. Additionally, she enjoyed horses and rodeos. Shana leaves behind her daughter Aubrey; parents John and Sammi Higgins; sister Savannah Higgins and nieces/nephews as survivors.
Marquis Daniels, now a graduate assistant for Auburn men’s basketball, was hospitalized following a car accident five years ago and his wife sat by him and prayed. While sitting beside him she noticed something unusual in her breast that hadn’t been present during an annual physical. She decided to get it examined, only to be told a few days later she had ductal carcinoma. Her faith helped her stay strong as she battled it head on – thanking God that her faith kept her going when other doctors told her otherwise.
Professional Career
Shana Daniels was an incredible basketball talent. Under Coach Willie Goolsby of Southwest Lady Patriots under Willie Goolsby she led them to two runner-up finishes at the Georgia High School Athletic Association State Class AAAA tournaments between 1994 and 1995; earning Middle Georgia Player of the Year honors as well as all-state accolades in each year.
From 1997 to 2001, she donned the Auburn Tigers uniform, starting 68 of 95 games while amassing 793 points during her time on Auburn Plains.
Shana met her husband, Marquis Daniels, while playing for Auburn basketball team and later serving as director of player development under head coach Bruce Pearl. Together they have two children; Shana carries the sickle cell trait while her younger brother also suffers from the condition; this brings awareness for sickle cell disease to Shana’s attention.
Achievement and Honors
Shana was left orphaned when her mercenary father died during the Battle of Starbright, so after moving with her sisters into Starlight House she quickly made friends amongst Holograms; becoming known by them as “Detector Pierre.”
At Auburn, Daniels led her team in scoring all four seasons and was selected preseason All-SEC as a junior. Additionally, she helped lead her high school basketball team to state runner-up titles in 1994 and 1995.
Shana stands out from her fellow dolls by playing guitar rather than drums. However, in an episode called In Stitches she was seen playing drums sitting midair rather than on her usual stool; an error on behalf of the animators.
Personal Life
Shana Daniels quickly learned the balance of academics, practice, and social life early on in her athletic career. Through her efforts she developed into a well-rounded athlete who understood her goals and how to push herself.

Marquis Daniels and she met on The Plains where they eventually married and raised two athletic young children.
