Step by step to a balanced garden

The Feng Shui Bagua in the garden

The Bagua grid is a Feng Shui instrument that helps to optimize the flow of energy in the house or garden so that the energy can flow freely. The Bagua has 9 zones or 9 areas of life that can be activated or calmed with certain aids. The bagua zones are symbolic and should be interpreted in a figurative sense.

Life path and career
This area is assigned to the north and the element water, which is why curved paths and flowing water are particularly good here, as are flowers with flowing or hanging shapes such as bluebells and orchids. Blue and white flowering plants such as cranesbill, sea carnation (Armeria maritima subsp. Maritima ‘Alba’) or lavender are also recommended.

partnership
This area is assigned to the southwest and the element earth, so you can create a rock garden or build a small garden house here. The partnership can be made to bloom with red and yellow flowers like dahlias (dahlia). Gypsophila paniculata and lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) also help. Flat and square flower beds also work well.

family
This area belongs to the east and to the element wood, so it is perfect for a seat, preferably with a table and chairs made of wood. Strong-growing plants such as bamboo and magnolia as well as other tree species are well suited.

wealth
This area is assigned to the southeast and the Elemet Holz. Strong plants, good light and a water source or fountain are a must here. Hanging plants and flower boxes with geraniums can also be found here. Succulents such as money tree (Crassula ovata) or roof root (Sempervivum) are also recommended. This is also the right place for a kitchen garden.

Tai Chi Center
This area stands for the center of life and strength. The element is earth. A free flow of energy is particularly important here. Lawn, sand or pebble areas are therefore particularly suitable. Accessories made of ceramic, stone or terracotta emphasize this area.

Helpful friends
This area is associated with the northwest and with the element metal. Since it symbolizes support from outside, no individual objects or sculptures should be displayed here, but those that symbolize relationships. When it comes to flowers, flowers or trees with a silver or gold shimmer, but also tulips and daffodils, are good.

children
The direction of the compass is west, the element – metal. This is a good area for a playground with swings, sandpit or climbing frames. Fruit and ornamental trees, classic box balls or other spherical plants are particularly suitable here. This zone also stands for new projects, which is why there is space for vegetable patches and berry bushes.

knowledge
This zone is associated with the element earth, the northeast and the colors yellow, orange and brown. This is the ideal place for a retreat, a cozy sitting area or a rock garden.

Fame
This area corresponds to the south, the color red and the element fire, so the garden grill finds its right place here. Precious objects, plants with beautiful flowers like jasmine, lilac and roses, sparkling lamps and lights are very important here.

A little bit of everything, nothing too much – that’s how simple it could be to explain how a garden should be designed according to Feng Shui. It’s all about balance.
