The Life of Roy Vehorn
As an aviation enthusiast, he enjoys building airplanes. One day he hopes to pilot a professional level R/C aircraft. Learning its fundamentals and applying them to successful projects are his favorite activities.
Reynolds College Athletic Task Force would like the college to establish sports teams; however, Hollins has refused to permit students to pay an athletic fee like they would at four-year institutions.
Early Life and Education
Vehorn’s education includes both a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Vermont and a master of environmental studies degree from Johns Hopkins. Additionally, he attended University of Minnesota’s master of fine arts program for creative writing.
Roy Michael Vehorn lives in Pelzer, South Carolina with his wife Marie and their two sons: Roy Michael Vehorn and Frank Vehorn. Additionally, they are survived by Sharon Johnston as a stepdaughter and Dwayne Nichols and Tim Nichols as stepsons.
Vehorn began experimenting with synthesizers and effects pedals following the release of Strand of Oak’s album Pope Killdragon to create a distinct sound for his band that had never been explored before. Although this album received positive reviews from notable publications like Pitchfork Media and Consequence of Sound, however it did not sell well.
Professional Career
Retired from Barnett-Southern of Tryon, North Carolina as plant manager and with numerous published technical papers and presentations made at engineering and technical conferences worldwide. He leaves his wife Marie Layne Vehorn; two sons Frank Vehorn of Winter Haven Florida and Roy Michael Vehorn from Pelzer South Carolina as well as stepsons Tim Nichols (of Asheville), Sharon Johnston (Stepdaughter), five grandsons, three granddaughters as well as Phalanx VFW Post 10349 membership (For Asheville membership); funeral services were held at McFarland Funeral Chapel with burial following in Mill Springs Cemetery Tryon
Achievement and Honors
Vehorn has found great enjoyment in R/C flying. He has built his own planes and plans on competing in future R/C competitions with them. He believes his knowledge of physics combines well with building techniques allowing him to keep up with competitions more successfully than his rivals. These hobbies help keep his mind sharp while being an important part of life; furthermore they have yielded numerous awards and recognition throughout their time together with hard work being recognized with awards given for them throughout.
Personal Life
Roy Julian Vehorn was born in Pelzer, South Carolina to Jetter and Lily Gosnell Vehorn. He retired as plant manager from Barnett-Southern of Tryon after nearly 35 years as plant manager; was an active member of both Mill Spring VFW Post 10349 in Tryon and Phalanx VFW of Charlotte; enjoyed building radio-controlled airplanes; taught others the basics of flight through his own hobby of building them himself; leaves his beloved wife Marie Layne Vehorn behind; is survived by two sons Frank of Winter Haven Florida; one stepson Tim Nichols from Tryon; five stepgrandchildren all of whom survive him as well.
