Steven Ceraso – Sculptor and Woodworker

Steven Ceraso is an accomplished artist who specializes in sculpture, woodworking and metal fabrication. His sculpture is often inspired by nature while using recycled materials in its creation.

He has taught art classes and provided private technical training at 3rd Ward Brooklyn, Long Island University and New York Studio School.

Early Life and Education

Dr. Steven Ceraso hails from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and attended the University of Pittsburgh where he earned a degree in Psychology and also studied dentistry at their School of Dental Medicine. Now living and practicing dentistry in Pinehurst North Carolina alongside his wife and three children.

Ceraso has also taken an interest in political advocacy and activism through Winning Margins, an advisory firm which assists executives and political candidates with government advocacy campaigns, as well as running Community Groundwork – a program which offers resources to two-year community college students.

Ceraso is an accomplished woodworker and artist. His works have been showcased at venues including Fountain Art Fair, Williamsburg Art Walks, Parrish Art Museum and Angels Gate Cultural Art Center. Unfortunately due to budget cuts at LIU CW POST he was not renewed as faculty resulting in a gaping hole in its wood shop curriculum.

Professional Career

Steven Ceraso is an emerging sculptor and woodworker who began exhibiting his works since 2017. Additionally, he teaches furniture making at Fashion Institute of Technology as well as participating in Fountain Art Fair, Williamsburg Art Walks, Parrish Museum exhibitions, and Angels Gate Cultural Art Center shows.

Community Groundwork, his political advocacy company, provides training and mentorship programs for two-year community college students interested in government advocacy campaigns. Additionally, he has worked on multiple presidential campaigns as well as down-ballot elections.

Recently, Professor Ceraso’s contract was not renewed due to budgetary reasons – this was devastating news for the art department as he had been instrumental in maintaining both their wood and metal shops.

Achievement and Honors

Steven Ceraso is an esteemed artist and woodworker. His sculptural pieces combine recycled materials with hand-crafted forms. His art has been displayed at multiple art fairs such as Fountain Art Fair, Williamsburg Art Walk and Parrish Museum; additionally, he has taught woodworking courses at 3rd Ward Brooklyn, Long Island University and New York Studio School.

In 2019, Ceraso launched Community Groundwork, a program offering training, mentorship programs, networking opportunities and financial resources for two-year community college students interested in working on government advocacy political campaigns. Community Groundwork’s initial 17 graduates include Citrus and Mount San Antonio College political science major Lizeth Hernandez who now works for Ceraso at Winning Margins.

He was honored with Pitzer College’s 2022 Distinguished Alumni Award, honoring those who have put their education into action within their careers and communities. Additionally, he served as faculty chair of LIU CW Post’s arts department for 13 years while managing their wood shop and metal shop facilities.

Personal Life

Steven is also an accomplished actor, having appeared in multiple regional productions. A member of Actors Equity Association, Steven has performed in numerous plays such as Craig Wright’s The Unseen’s Off Broadway Premiere.

As well as acting, he also dabbles in sculpture and furniture making. His pieces combine recycled materials with handcrafted forms for unique results that have been displayed at exhibitions such as Fountain Art Fair, Williamsburg Art Walks and The Parrish Museum.

His career of community service and charitable work spans decades. He helped establish a free mobile dental clinic sponsored by St. Joseph of the Pines in Moore County and volunteers on Saturdays to provide dental care to underprivileged patients in Pinehurst. Together with his wife he lives there.
