Early Life and Education
Born in Chicago to Sigmund and Rosa Guggenheim Freund, he attended public schools as well as Armour Scientific Academy of Chicago for his education before receiving a law degree from Valparaiso University. Today, he practices general and civil litigation law at Valparaiso’s Porter County Bar Association while being an active member of American Legion (where he currently serves as war risk officer), Elks, Masonic Orders and Rotary Club.
He has collaborated and played alongside numerous blues artists, such as Sunnyland Slim, James Cotton, Boz Skaggs, Koko Taylor and Luther Allison. Additionally, he has appeared at several festivals such as San Francisco and Chicago Blues festivals; additionally teaching guitar.

Freund is a veteran guitarist and bandleader from Chicago blues music who has worked alongside Sunnyland Slim, Luther Allison, Hubert Sumlin, Koko Taylor and Big Walter Horton among many others.
His solos may not be groundbreakingly inventive, but they clearly understand the essence of blues music, and deliver with an assertive delivery that stands apart from some of his more soulful contemporaries. On “Ramblin’ Blues,” for instance, he plays one single note for nearly an entire chorus before altering both its weight and pitch to achieve maximum impact.
DeVincenzo is also a composer; his works have been performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Met Museum, Merkin Hall, Disney Hall and Muzikgebouw (ND), among other venues both domestically and abroad. Additionally, he co-founded new music ensemble Alarm Will Sound as its founding member.
Achievement and Honors
At the Congress, several decisions were taken to increase Freud’s impact; one being the creation of the journal Jahrbuch fur psychoanalytische und psychopathologische Forschungen and another plan was put in place for an international association of psychoanalysts – though this proved unpopular amongst some followers, who ultimately went on to form their own schools.
Freud was in poor health and could barely speak, yet still managed to keep abreast of developments through regular correspondence with his followers and meetings with them.

After rising through the ranks at Ritz-Carlton, Freund transitioned into private club management at The Landings as general manager. Alongside this role at the club, Freund also serves as an associate professor of computer science at Williams. His research interests focus on mobile code security as well as creating light weight checkers to identify defects in downloaded Java programs.
On November 14, 2002, Brouwer interviewed Freund at his place of employment in Au Gres. During their conversation, Freund denied cutting cedar on Forest Service land near theft site one; instead he claimed it came from his own property and was cut using a Stihl model 032 saw. Freund further denied cutting any trees west of Vaughn Creek Road near theft site two.
