Steven held various jobs before realizing his lifelong ambition of becoming an artist. These included visual display artist, park director, teaching art and painting as well as visual display artist/park director duties.
He currently serves as the Managing Director for IEEE’s portfolio of learned journals and books, striving to advance its science-based humanitarian objectives while meeting the needs of researchers and professionals across academia and industry. Furthermore, upholding high standards of academic integrity are his main concerns.
Early Life and Education
Steven Held has held executive positions in Northeast Pennsylvania hospitals, integrative medicine clinics and physician group practices. He writes and speaks on global health issues, healthcare management and community health – being involved with Healthy Northeast Pennsylvania Initiative as an HCM research organization is one of his passions.
Steve participated in various literary endeavors at Lovedale during his time there and contributed regularly to the BCP Monthly. Following graduation with Standard Six, he continued his studies by enrolling into Natal University Non European section (now University of KwaZulu-Natal) medical school – one of its many benefits was acceptance into their medical school programme.
After attending the United Church Movement Conference at Stutterheim in 1969, Steve left Fort Hare and traveled throughout South Africa in an attempt to garner caucus support for SASO; unfortunately for him however, NUSAS had already formed.
Professional Career
Steven Held has been an established director, producer, and writer since establishing his first publication – Cap’n Crunch Courier – as a humorous xerox zine distributed at four Central Illinois high schools. Following this endeavor in 1968 he then founded High Times magazine which addressed counterculture topics as well as cannabis rights advocacy.
In 2019, he returned to WWE for one-off appearances at WrestleMania 38 and is currently serving as creative consultant of Raw brand. Additionally, he directed several short films including Unsane.
Held has also served as technical advisor for other companies, most notably Kateeva where he collaborated closely with Ching Wang to identify materials and thin-film device configurations that led to efficient Organic Light Emitting Diode structures. Held is widely respected for his technical acumen as well as creative sensibility.
Achievement and Honors
Steven Weinberg was an American theoretical physicist who won the 1979 Nobel Prize for unifying two of the forces that govern our universe. Additionally, his career was marked by teaching and scholarship.
Held is currently serving as Junior Achievement USA’s senior vice president of operations, overseeing training, individual giving, district operations and more. He has been with Junior Achievement USA for 18 years; previously serving as western U.S. region regional director and then SVP-field operations.
He is an unflagging champion for education’s transformative power in changing lives and societies, receiving numerous awards and honors throughout his professional career. Additionally, he continues to make substantial contributions to his community while serving as an inspiration to others.
Personal Life
Since 2010, he has served in the Kansas legislature, using his agricultural and financial experience to find solutions to key policy issues. Additionally, he serves on state committees related to investments, insurance and legislative budget. Lastly, his market and planning knowledge comes in handy during his farm operations.
His BFA comes from Emily Carr University of Art & Design in Vancouver, Canada and his work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at several institutions worldwide.
He currently resides in Sarasota, Florida where he teaches drawing at Ringling College of Art and Design as well as serving as executive sponsor of DuPont’s LGBTQ employee resource group. With an insatiable appetite for knowledge acquisition, his pursuit of greater understanding remains top priority.
