Stanley Stefanski – Cleveland Browns Head Coach

Stanley Stefanski has taken over as head coach of the Cleveland Browns. Under his guidance, they have developed stronger special teams and coverage units.

Defenses will have difficulty keeping up with this team. He relies heavily on slip and jailbreak screens against slower linebackers – an approach which proved particularly effective against Kansas City last season.

Early Life and Education

He served in Company B of 1st Battalion 14th Infantry Regiment 4th Infantry Division as an Infantryman.

He then became an NBA scouting director for both the New Jersey Nets and Philadelphia 76ers, in addition to analyzing local college basketball telecasts and coaching at Monsignor Bonner High School in Philadelphia.

Stefanski also worked as a consultant for the Toronto Raptors and Memphis Grizzlies as well as serving as their scouting director before joining the Nets as assistant coach under Brad Childress, Leslie Frazier, and Mike Zimmer. Additionally, during his time with the Nets he helped lead them to two championship teams as they reached finals while acting as special assistant to Atlanta Hawks General Manager GM Larry Bird.

Professional Career

Cleveland is notorious for quickly cycling through coaches and quarterbacks, yet Stefanski may offer Cleveland its best shot. After one season leading Minnesota’s offense, and already having an established relationship through Paul DePodesta (their chief analytics strategist).

Stefanski brings experience as a former Penn safety, along with an emphasis on data-driven coaching. While not as celebrated or boy genius as Kyle Shanahan, Stefanski understands how to build an offense and his staff boasts talented tight ends, running backs and quarterbacks that could potentially change Browns fortunes after years without playoff appearance. Expectations may be high; but if Stefanski delivers, they could give him another shot next season.

Achievement and Honors

Stefanski turned around one of the NFL’s worst franchises in 2020, leading them to their first playoff berth in 18 years and earning him his first NFL Coach of the Year Award since Forrest Gregg in 1976.

The next season, he led them back into playoff contention and earned them their first victory since 21 years – garnering him yet another NFL Coach of the Year award.

Stefanski is both an accomplished military and coaching veteran. As an infantryman in the U.S. Marine Corps, he earned various awards and honors. Additionally, he has served in multiple coaching capacities with Minnesota Vikings — such as quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator – during his service time.

Personal Life

Stefanski served as quarterbacks coach for the Minnesota Vikings from 2006 to 2019, helping develop several young players and garnering praise for his meticulous preparation. Following Brad Childress’ dismissal in 2019, Stefanski was promoted to offensive coordinator under Mike Zimmer and worked closely with their top scoring offense.

Stefanski took over as Head Coach of the Cleveland Browns in 2020 and led them to their first playoff appearance since 2002. Additionally, he has become an in-demand public speaker who regularly addresses both college and corporate audiences.
