Thomas Boulware was an entrepreneur and real estate broker who gained experience at NAI Batten & Moore in Charleston while also owning and operating several companies.
He specialized in land sales and development. Additionally, he engaged in forestry management and fishing. Additionally, he attended Skiatook Free Will Baptist Church as his home church.
Early Life and Education
Boulware arrived in Birmingham from Missouri in 1929 and joined Norwood Clinic (now Carraway Hospital) as an obstetrician, founding the first indigent maternity clinic and working to improve care for Birmingham’s poor. He led efforts to construct Alabama’s first urban medical center – the Slossfield complex.
His life’s mission was to improve our world for future generations. An avid member of Boy Scouts and avid music festival attendee, he especially appreciated attending music fests featuring bands belonging to his son’s bands as well as bluegrass music and the Atlanta Braves.
His legacy will live on through Helen, four children – Janet Martin, Tommy Boulware, Darrel Boulware and Penny Boulware; two brothers: Vernon Boulware and Belton Boulware; six sisters Kathleen Eller, Nellie Lawson, Daisey Haney, Edith Franklin Ruby Vinson and Nancy Boulware as well as one step daughter Donna Gardin. Also left to cherish his memory are many nieces and nephews.
Professional Career
Boulware was selected first-round of the 1997 NFL Draft by Baltimore Ravens, where he spent his entire career. He appeared in four Pro Bowls and holds their all-time sack record.

A renowned kidney disease researcher with groundbreaking discoveries to her name, she also contributes to translational research as an authority and mentors numerous students, residents, and fellows in her field of work.

Thomas Boulware has made an exceptional impactful contribution to his community outside of football. As an active leader in many national and state political, professional, charitable organizations as well as being an accomplished musician/educator having conducted choirs at state, division and national conventions of Music Educators National Conference as well as American Choral Directors Association conventions.
At a recent 4-H awards banquet, Boulware advised young attendees to seek mentors and tap into their wisdom. He further advised developing work ethic and prioritizing education.

Thomas Boulware remains unmarried; it is possible that he may have had a relation with someone with the same name.
According to Spencer’s obituary, John served during the Revolutionary War by providing beef and corn to militia troops. Additionally, it is thought he moved his family from Massachusetts to South Carolina during this time period.
Dr Boulware came to Birmingham from Missouri in 1929 after being invited by Charles Carraway and established the first indigent maternity clinic at Hillman Hospital (UAB), as well as performing its first “bikini” Caesarean.
Later he would practice law in Barnwell and Allendale. For 10 years, he served as Chairman of Barnwell School Board as well as serving as an appeal agent during WWII. Furthermore, he became an active member of Allendale Presbyterian Church over time.
