Early Life and Education

Sheldon Harris, Lyons High School’s assistant football and track coach, noticed someone working tirelessly near the triple jump area for much of this fall. That person was Thomas Saggau – an enthusiastic senior who competes in two relay events as well as triple and long jump. Saggau says his main goals this year include making state meet for outdoor competition and winning indoor conference championship.

Professional Career

Thomas Saggau is one of the founding partners of Saggau & DeRollo LLC and an ardent advocate for public policy. He led negotiations that secured police officer pensions; unearthed wage theft at Slavery Towers high-rise project; and works closely with clients to prepare them to deliver fact-based messaging campaigns.

All-State selection, he played football for Iowa and spent eight years in the National Football League. Additionally, he excelled at baseball and basketball before winning a championship with Dowling wrestling team. From an early age onward, his competitive spirit and dedication were evident; both on and off the track.

Achievement and Honors

Saggau did not seem particularly pleased with his initial attempt during the February 16 triple jump event at LT, scoring 46 feet five inches, but this distance proved more than sufficient to break both school and personal records. Saggau attributes his success to his commitment and overall investment in this sport that began back when he started in seventh grade at St Francis Xavier.

He credits his competitive spirit to his family and coaches as one of the main components of his success on track and field, hoping to continue by winning an outdoor conference title and an all-state triple jump championship title.

Personal Life

Lyons assistant football and track coach Sheldon Harris noticed a familiar face near the triple jump area throughout the fall season. Harris later realized this familiar figure was none other than senior track and field athlete Thomas Saggau who competes in two relays; triple jump and long jump. Saggau has dedicated himself to track since seventh grade; his passion and tenacity for this event is evident; this outdoor season his goal is to win conference, advance to state, and compete for an all-state title.
