Tips: Hotels for overnight stays on the Brenner motorway
After all, it is 900 kilometers to drive from Bamberg to Rimini. Also in Tuscany. And for travelers further north, the journey is even longer. On the way to Italy you cross one of the most beautiful panoramic roads in the Alps with the Brenner autobahn. So why not just spend a night in the mountains? We have three stylish, modern hotels – no rancid motels – selected which we have already visited (several times) and which are close to the Brenner motorway. There should be something here for every overnight stay!
The Penz West in Innsbruck
The Penz West (Booking.com link) is actually an airport hotel, offering great value for money (approx. 120 EUR double room with breakfast) but a great performance and nice rooms. If you continue driving from the Hotel Penz West, you will reach the after 10 minutes Schönberg toll station, where the actual Brenner Autobahn begins. The Penz is one of the few hotels along the Brenner route where you can arrive and depart 24 hours a day!
Mercure Nerocubo Rovereto (Vipiteno)
The Mercure Nerocubo is located right next to the Brenner autobahn on the outskirts of Rovereto. It is almost directly at the toll station and is particularly interesting for vacationers who are really on the road until very late at night and want to go to bed directly from the motorway. The rooms are very nicely designed by Mercure standards, and we really liked the bathroom, even in the simplest rooms. For lovers of mountain panoramas the panoramic rooms are worth it: They have a large glass surface, as shown in our photo. You wake up with an impressive view over the surrounding mountains. Thanks to the high-quality soundproof windows, you can’t hear anything from the Brenner motorway, which runs about 100 meters from the hotel. The Italian breakfast offers a wide range of delicious cakes. If you arrive by 10 p.m., you can still enjoy the regional delicacies from the restaurant, where we have already had dinner twice at fair prices. Prices: From around €90 in a double room including breakfast. Photos: standard room (with small window) & panorama room.
Four Points by Sheraton Bolzano
The Four Points by Sheraton (Booking.com Link) is located in the industrial area of Bolzano. Right next door is a huge Interspar supermarket, which is also open on Sundays. The supermarket is a good place to pack some Italian specialties on the way back, for example. Otherwise loads Bolzano with numerous nice restaurants and cafés (Tip: The Walther’s on Walthersplatz) to linger. The highlight of the hotel, which is already a few years old, is the top floor, where the wellness area with pool and great views of the mountains is located. Price: approx. 130 EUR / night.
Mod 05 Living Hotel (Sandra, Lake Garda)
The Mod 05 Living Hotel (Booking.com link) is the southernmost hotel on our route to Italy. It is located in Southwest of Lake Garda in Sandra. From the hotel it is about a 5-10 minute drive to the lake, but the hotel is conveniently located near the Autostrada del Brennero. It is new and simple and offers a small but delicious breakfast, which you can enjoy comfortably in the garden. Price: Approx. 120 EUR / night including breakfast.

Always nice: a stopover in Lazise on Lake Garda
The Penz Innsbruck
The Penz again – but beware: Not the Penz West. The Penz is the Innsbrucker’s more luxurious main building, where we were guests for the first time in February 2018. For us it is always very important that you stay overnight 24 hour check in can. That’s not a problem at The Penz, after a hard drive you can even reward yourself with a cocktail at the bar on the fifth floor until 2 a.m. The bar on the “5th Floor” is also one of the highlights of The Penz: with a Panoramic view over Innsbruck and the Nordkette you can end the day here – inside or in the open air – and start the next one straight away: Breakfast is also served here, and with its truly legendary selection, it guarantees a great culinary start to your holiday. The 92 rooms have been renovated, the bathrooms in particular are very chic, new and clean. Although the The Penz very central is located, you can park directly under the hotel in the “Rathausgalerien” underground car park for a fair €13 per day. Prices: Around €150 per double room per night including breakfast.
