What is the reference number for?

A reference number relates to something. It allows you to assign things or people. A typical example of a reference number is the shipment number of a parcel service, such as DHL. This number assigns a shipment to a recipient and a sender.

Is reference intended use?

If a reference is to be given when paying an invoice, it is usually a customer, invoice number. or file number meant. With the purpose you can enter whatever you want, including numbers.
