Which helmet for electric scooters?

Helmets are not compulsory for electric scooters, but drivers should protect themselves with suitable headgear, because you can travel really fast with these lively vehicles. Electric scooters are allowed to travel at a maximum speed of 20 km/h. Drivers can travel 15 to 30 kilometers on one battery charge. Electric scooters are available in the simple equipment from 300 euros, but there are also significantly more expensive, because there are models with different equipment features.

Electric scooters are allowed to move on bike lanes, but not on sidewalks. If there is no sidewalk, the drivers have to switch to the street. For this reason alone, it should be in the interest of every driver to wear a suitable helmet on the electric scooter. Most riders choose a lightweight half shell helmet. An integral or flip-up helmet would be a bit too much of a good thing.

Matching helmets for electric scooters

The half shell (jet helmet) consists of high-quality plastic or carbon. The hard outer shell is combined with a soft inner padding for optimal comfort. The head should be protected all around by the hard shell, a half-shell as a BMX or MTB version is not recommended. With this all-round model, the front and back of the head are equally protected. Even if a half-shell helmet is quite light and streamlined compared to a full-face and flip-up helmet, there should be a ventilation system on the sides.

Helmets for electric scooters are available for women and men in the appropriate sizes. You can determine the correct size by measuring the circumference of your head with a measuring tape. This is attached above the eyebrows and then placed around the head. The determined head circumference corresponds to the appropriate helmet size.

With the electric scooter in the city center

Since electric scooters are often carried in the city center for the last few meters to work or to the next bus connection, a light weight is an important purchase criterion. No one wants to carry a large, heavy helmet on the bus or while shopping. Depending on the model, helmets for electric scooters are available with different fasteners.

With the buckle open, the helmet should not slide back when you move your head. The helmet fits perfectly when it is loose but not too tight, two finger widths above the eyebrows.
