How can electricity be generated?
Electrical energy can be generated from light, heat, motion and chemical energy stored in coal or oil, for example. Various power plants are built for this purpose: coal-fired power plants, nuclear power plants, hydroelectric power plants, gas turbine power plants, geothermal power plants or wind power plants.

If two materials with different electron affinities are brought into intimate contact by friction, electrons pass from one insulator to the other. Positive ions (pink) remain for the insulator with lower electron affinity.
