John was born in 1925 and spent his early years living on a farm near Troy, South Dakota. He attended Hart School until eighth grade before beginning to work on his father’s farm at an early age.

He later founded his own trucking company and owned 18 wheelers that transported grain and hay to farmers throughout the state. Even at 83 years old, he continued driving for local farmers.

With a strong commitment to community service he’s active within local churches while enjoying outdoor activities like camping or hiking while reading books.
