Thomas Nye – A Talented American Actor

Thomas Nye is an esteemed American actor renowned for his performances at the National Theatre. Most notably he made waves as Bernard Nightingale in Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia.

He is the proud father of four children, and enjoys riding his horses and camping with them.

Early Life and Education

Thomas Nye was born in Tiffin, Ohio. He attended Lafayette Elementary and Alice Deal Junior High Schools before enrolling at Cornell University to study mechanical engineering; at Cornell he also took an astronomy class taught by Carl Sagan.

Nineteen years ago he pioneered an industry in this region for growing Bermuda onions. Here were bulbs which could grow just as well or better than any elsewhere and an ample market existed here for them to sell on to. He remained actively involved with this business until his death at age 73 years.

He was laid to rest in the Odd Fellows plot at the City Cemetery and left behind four sons – Frank W., Pierce, Grover C. and Chester Nye – as well as one daughter: Mrs Frances E. Collins of San Antonio.

Thomas Nye is a Director at GGC, responsible for identifying, assessing and executing new investment opportunities as well as supporting ongoing portfolio management activities. He possesses extensive expertise in private equity investing, business valuation and merger-and-acquisition transactions.

Tom graduated in 1987 from The Ohio State University College of Optometry, and since that time has been in private practice. Tom has served as a go-to source for elected officials when it comes to optometric issues, and was recognized with OOA’s Key Optometrist of the Year Award in 2006.

Tom enjoyed spending his free time fishing, camping, OSU football games and being around his grandkids. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and worked with him; Patricia remains his widow; Thomas and Andrew his sons; as well as five grandchilden who remain survivors.

Nye was widely respected in the world of golf coaching, earning induction into the Northern Ohio PGA section Hall of Fame in 1987. From 1964-1986 he led Wooster college’s golf team as coach – making him one of the country’s premier collegiate coaches.

He has won multiple awards throughout his life. Between 1993 and 1994 he served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Security Assistance, Science, and Technology during President Clinton’s term in office.

He is widely celebrated for his role on Bill Nye the Science Guy television show and has won various awards – TCA Awards, Parents’ Choice Awards and Environmental Media Awards among them – in addition to receiving multiple nominations for Daytime Emmy Awards. Currently living in Hamilton Ohio with his wife and children.

At its core, John was a dedicated husband, father and friend to many. His presence will be sorely missed by everyone he knew and loved him; from horses, chickens, hunting and camping adventures with family to looking forward to attending each Nye family reunion up Soapstone every year.
