Dan Sundaram begins each day as is typical: an alarm wakes him, breakfast and coffee are consumed quickly before sitting down to read emails. But then the phone rings.

Dan Hasty was born with a clubbed foot and spent his early childhood performing in theatre productions. Living just a block from SUNY Cortland campus, he spent many winter nights walking two miles in subzero temperatures to attend college basketball games.

Hasty was exiled from his high school baseball team and wrote Ernie Harwell pleading for an opportunity to pursue broadcasting as his dream job. Harwell sent back an encouraging letter, encouraging Hasty to keep following his dream.

Hasty serves as the radio voice for the West Michigan Whitecaps of the Tigers Single-A affiliate and also works at 97.1 The Ticket as a studio host, sports anchor and producer. Additionally he calls Saginaw Valley State men’s and women’s basketball games; Hasty was honored as 2017 Midwest League Broadcaster of the Year.

Hasty, an avid golf fan, took to the airwaves during a special edition of RTD to call an at-bat in Augusta National style with help from Nate Wangler to bring Augusta National to baseball by using soothing music and reduced crowd noise levels.

Achievement and Honors

Hasty began his sportscaster career after graduating from UM. Beginning with broadcasts for the Great Lakes Loons and Traverse City Beach Bums, followed by various minor league teams before finally moving on to other broadcast opportunities.

Hasty should be considered for deeper leagues who wish to add insurance in case the Niners’ running backs become injured and Hasty offers James Robinson-esque lead-back potential in case anything happens to Etienne.
