Daniel Phelps had an immense love of life and found great pleasure in sharing that joy with those he met – especially his University of Washington soccer teammates.

His expertise as a contractor and construction attorney was valued by his clients, offering variety, client interaction, medico-legal issues that arise in medical negligence claims, as well as designing snow parks at Okemo Mountain Ski Resort.

Early Life and Education

Dan was passionate about snowboarding, music, art and spending time with his family. His never-quit attitude brought joy and made people smile all around him. Dan leaves behind his parents Harley and Bette Phelps of New Ashford along with sister Jenna Phelps (New Ashford) and brother Colton Phelps from New Ashford as well as several cousins.

He always showed his generosity by giving back to the community whenever possible, serving as a role model and mentor to many youth in sports as well as in his profession.

Phelps died of sudden cardiac arrest at his Seattle apartment in 2015. Adam Lang, former UW soccer player and friend, created the DP Foundation as a way to honor Phelps while increasing awareness about sudden cardiac arrest. Golf tournaments and partnerships with Nick of Time Foundation for screening young hearts continue this effort in western Washington schools.

Professional Career

Dan holds multiple certifications, such as: GIAC Certified Intrusion Analyst, Information Systems Security Professional and Certified Information Systems Security Professional. Furthermore, he is an accomplished swimmer having broken national age-group records for 100m backstroke swimming events.

At 15 he became the youngest American swimmer ever to compete at an Olympic event; becoming the youngest American ever at Sydney 2000 and coming close to beating Mark Spitz’s record of seven gold medals at one Olympic games (he fell just short).

In 2008, he set an incredible record by winning eight medals (all gold in every event) and breaking world records in almost every event. Following London 2012 he decided to retire, only to return later on stage an extraordinary comeback and now work at his charitable foundation with a focus on children’s mental health issues.

Achievement and Honors

Phelps established his own foundation to promote swimming opportunities for young people and advocate mental health awareness; speaking out publicly about his own experiences of depression.

Phelps earned 22 Olympic medals, 18 of them gold. He broke Mark Spitz’s previous record of seven golds at one Olympics and held all-time world records in both 200-metre butterfly and 4 x 100-metre freestyle relay events.

His family has stressed the importance of mental health, and he himself has appeared as a guest on several television shows to discuss his own experiences with depression. Additionally, he donated an impressive sum to organizations helping those struggling with addiction or mental illness while simultaneously working on business projects.

Personal Life

Daniel was an exceptionally kind-hearted individual who could always bring laughter into any environment he entered. All who knew him loved and will miss him dearly; his family and friends remain committed to honoring both his memory and legacy.

He advocated for heart safe communities, raising funds to provide advanced heart screenings at local venues and businesses – his efforts will benefit young athletes for many years.

Dan was an outstanding General Dentist at Phelps Family Dentistry in Wilmington, NC as well as serving his town as a volunteer firefighter. His enthusiasm and desire to help others was unmatched – leaving behind a wife, two daughters, a son in law and numerous close friends whom he considered family.

Net Worth

Phelps holds more than 28 Olympic medals and is one of the most decorated athletes ever. He has become an iconic global figure due to his incredible success on the track and also earned millions through brand endorsement deals.

He boasts an extensive collection of cars and homes, and has actively participated in charitable work to promote the well-being of others. Additionally, he has raised awareness regarding mental health.

Radcliffe continued his acting career after finishing Harry Potter. His performances in various films and theater productions have garnered rave reviews.
