David Replogle

David Replogle is an eminent businessman, book publisher, and father of five boys. He served in the U.S. Navy before embarking on graduate studies in philosophy at Princeton University.

In this case, there was ample evidence to support a finding that Replogle was part of an organized conspiracy prior to the murder of the victim. The aim was to gain complete control over all of the victim’s assets.

Early Life and Education

Joseph Replogle was born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania on January 6, 1860 and moved to Walnut in Mifflin County five winters. During this period he also taught public school lessons for five winters there and at Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania for one winter.

He was a professional photographer for most of his career. He used dry plate glass negatives to create cabinet card photos and crayon enlargements.

His equipment was minimal–a view camera, negative plate holders, focusing cloth and printing frames. Additionally, he carried a chair and backdrops for his photography sessions which were often done outdoors rather than in his studio.

He lived in Walnut until 1904 when he sold his business and relocated to Philadelphia where he became a timekeeper and photographer for the Navy Yard. Remarried in 1906, he raised four children.

Replogle was found guilty in 2011 of murder, burglary, grand theft and other charges; however he was granted a new trial by District Attorney Rob Hightower due to misconduct during his original trial. He is scheduled to be sentenced on October 14.
