The Life of George Grimes

Music fans will recognize George Grimes. He’s an avid record collector with more than 24,000 albums under his belt – commercial releases, test pressings and bootlegs alike.

He spent his early years as an enslaved man in King George County, Virginia. Ultimately he was sold by his enslaver to William Thornton of Montpelier Plantation in Culpepper County, Virginia.

Early Life and Education

George Grimes was born on a poultry farm in Gentry, Arkansas and developed into an incredibly positive person with immense strength of character. He dedicated his life to serving others; becoming a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

George attended his local school as a child, where he learned the values of respect for authority, obedience to law and regard for his neighbors.

He went on to earn a degree from the University of Nebraska and taught school on the Rosebud Indian reservation in South Dakota.

After college, he and his wife Eva moved to Omaha and began their newspaper careers. In 1923 they purchased the Platte Valley News in Scottsbluff, then shortly after moved back to Omaha in 1925.

Professional Career

George Grimes was an accomplished professional with extensive expertise in journalism and public relations.

He served in the United States Army’s Radio and Television Corps. Furthermore, he worked as a consultant for the Tampa Chamber of Commerce.

Aside from his career, he was also deeply committed to charitable activities. In 1991, he established the George and Eva Grimes Memorial Trust Fund at the University of Nebraska which awards $1,000 scholarships to students studying journalism or mass communications.

In addition to his wife Etmonia, he leaves behind three children: Jessie Powells, Benjamin Toles and Georgia Grimes. Additionally, he has 41 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Achievements and Honors

George Grimes has achieved much in his lifetime. He was a successful businessman and is widely respected within his community for his hard work and accomplishments.

He has received numerous accolades from both his employer and government authorities for his professional achievements, which include acquiring rail facilities, integrating strategic business initiatives and managing corporate transformations.

Grimes has donated four scholarships to DSLCC in honor of his late sister and three in memory of his high school basketball coach, each named for a nursing student. As an philanthropist, he also established one scholarship in her name as well.

He has been awarded with the Coretta Scott King-Virginia Hamilton Award for Lifetime Achievement and served as a guest speaker at the University.

Grimes is renowned for her critically acclaimed music and visual art, earning a net worth of $10 million. As a Canadian artist, she began her career in 2010 with the release of her album Visions.

She then released the highly successful album Art Angels in 2012, her second record label release that cemented her reputation as an up and coming talent.

Grimes has also featured as one of the judges on Fox’s reality competition show Alter Ego. Additionally, she has starred in several films.

Grimes has had several romantic relationships throughout her life; however, she prefers to keep the details of each one private.
