Early Life and Education
John Barbera grew up in Buffalo, NY. He was the son of Louis and Margaret Barbera.
After he finished school, he became interested in film animation and began to draw. He also began taking drawing classes at the Art Students’ League and Pratt Institute.
In 1957, Barbera and William Hanna formed Hanna-Barbera, which was one of the most successful television animation studios of its time. It produced a number of iconic programs including Tom and Jerry, The Flintstones, Yogi Bear, Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?, Top Cat, The Smurfs and Huckleberry Hound.
