Santa Barbara Unified School District will increase eligibility for transitional kindergarten (TK) among 4-year-old students based on California’s expansion of birth date eligibility requirements for enrollment into transitional kindergarten (TK).

He founded the Newton County Community Band and established The Arts Association of Covington to support musical education, according to a 2014 Covington News story. Additionally, he was one of the original founding members of Cleveland Orchestra.

Early Life and Education

Tk Adams is a percussion professor at the University of Georgia, principal timpanist for both Canton Symphony Orchestra and Florida Philharmonic Orchestra and has performed under world-renowned conductors like Leonard Bernstein, Kurt Masur, Elliott Carter and Seiji Ozawa.

Adams was raised in Braintree, Massachusetts. Occasionally accompanying his father on diplomatic missions abroad and studying French and classical literature while on these trips, Adams studied French. Later becoming an attorney and political activist who wrote articles praising President George Washington’s neutrality policy during the 1793 war between France and Great Britain, Adams eventually went onto become president himself in 1823.

He has made significant contributions to education at both the local and state levels, serving on Reach Higher Shasta board of directors and being honored as part of Newton County School System’s Educators Hall of Fame. Furthermore, both he and his wife served as grand marshals at Newton County Juneteenth parade.

Professional Career

TK Adams served for 36 years as band director at R.L. Couins High School and Cousins Middle School, winning Teacher of the Year four times during that period. Additionally, he founded and directed regular Christmas and Fourth of July concerts at Covington’s Grace United Methodist Church.

He served as principal timpanist of the Canton Symphony Orchestra for years and performed under such esteemed conductors as Leonard Bernstein, Kurt Masur, Michael Tilson Thomas, Seiji Ozawa and Trevor Pinnock – among many others. Additionally he composed numerous solo and chamber works for percussion instruments that were published by Mostly Marimba Publications.

One of T.K. Adams’ notable students was an executive from a Fortune 100 company who credits T.K. Adams with providing his musical education. Both Louise and T.K. Adams are active members of their local church community.

Achievement and Honors

Adams was honored with induction into Newton County Educators Hall of Fame and served as District 10 Music Chairman, according to a 2014 Covington News story. He formed and conducted regular Fourth of July concerts downtown Covington as the Newton County Community Band leader. When Adams retired from community band participation, Arts Association created the TK Adams Instrumental Music Scholarship as an expression of their appreciation. Furthermore, both Adams and his wife helped organize Ficquett Elementary School Juneteenth celebrations together.

Adams has made numerous film appearances, such as Tim Burton’s Big Eyes and Oscar-nominated Doubt. Additionally, she appeared alongside Meryl Streep in Nora Ephron’s Julie and Julia and received multiple award nominations for playing artist Margaret Keane in David O. Russell’s American Hustle.

Personal Life

Over six decades have passed since T.K. and Louise Adams rekindled their high school romance at a small church in Waycross and made the commitment of marriage. Soon thereafter they embarked upon their teaching careers, pouring themselves out for students, schools and communities alike.

Composer and educator, Mr. Lafferty has written numerous solo, chamber, and timpani etudes published under Mostly Marimba Publications. Additionally, he created an educational DVD for percussionists as well as being an experienced drumming clinician.

Adams serves on the Association of School Administrators Legislative Policy Committee and Reach Higher Shasta Executive Board. Additionally, he established and directed Newton County Community Band concerts annually until retiring in 2014. In that time he also endorsed Zildjian Cymbals, Freer Percussion instruments, and Mike Balter mallets.
