Benjamin Tallis

Tallis is the first female Qunari soldier introduced, serving in Hawke’s military unit as a dual-wielder. She can use unique daggers, and her affection does not conflict with any current romantic interests of either player character.

Giselle, Iulia and Dalibor are joined by Benjamin Tallis of DGAP who coordinates Action Group Zeitenwende project. He has advised governments on foreign, security and neighbourhood policies while curating Hamburg Insecurity Sessions.

Early Life and Education

Benjamin Tallis is a senior fellow at the German Council on Foreign Relations and leads their project on Germany’s security transformation. Additionally, he serves as editor-in-chief for NP and co-organizes the Hamburg (Insecurity) Sessions with others from IFSH and its project on Arms Control and Emerging Technologies funded by German Federal Foreign Office – thanks you all for making this event possible!

He is best-known for his roles as a film actor in The Devil’s Double (2011) and My Week with Marilyn (2015), where he portrays rock drummer Ben and Howard Stark from Marvel Cinematic Universe respectively.

Professional Career

Ben made significant contributions in library and information sciences during his short life. He graduated valedictorian of his high school class in Moncton, New Brunswick before enrolling at Mount Allison University, Memorial University of Newfoundland and eventually the University of Toronto for further studies.

He has worked at both Institute of International Relations Prague and IFSH Hamburg; on EU security missions to Ukraine and the Balkans; advised governments across Europe; written for media outlets including Foreign Policy and Politico; edited New Perspectives journal; as well as curating 2017 Prague Insecurity Conference; an upcoming book exploring geopolitics of (in)security across Europe is due out this fall.

He is passionate about the future of Europe, and currently working on an Action Group Zeitenwende at Hertie School Berlin. His research on the connection between European integration and regional and global security has been featured in academic journals such as Security Dialogue and Cooperation and Conflict.

Achievement and Honors

Tallis has published extensively on European politics, providing advice to various governments as well as editing the SCOPUS listed academic journal New Perspectives. His research interests focus on security politics in Europe, Central and East European societies and cultures, critical geopolitics as well as translating research findings into policy and practice.

Personal Life

Dr Benjamin Tallis joined the German Council on Foreign Relations as a research fellow in 2022, running their “Action Group Zeitenwende” on Germany’s security transformation project. He provides guidance for governments as well as writing for media such as Foreign Policy, Politico and The Independent – in addition to academic journals like International Studies Quarterly and Security Dialogue. He previously held positions with the Institute of International Relations Prague where he created and directed its Centre for European Security; advised several EU governments on border and visa issues; edited New Perspectives journal; wrote two books (To Ukraine With Love: Essays on Russia’s War and Europe’s Future as well as Identity, Borderscapes Orders: (In)Security Mobility Crisis Crisis in EU Ukraine 2023). Furthermore he curates 2019 Hamburg Insecurity Sessions.

He is best known for his roles in Mamma Mia!, Captain America: The First Avenger and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter as well as touring with The History Boys production. Tallis attended Thomas Tallis School in Kidbrooke as well as London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art where he studied. In Dragon Age Inquisition Varric frequently mentioned Tallis to Iron Bull while they bantered. Iron Bull claimed she caused many difficulties. This also holds true in Redemption when Varric claimed she caused problems for them both times!
