The Life of Daniel Pellegrin

Early Life and Education

He was an active member of the Catholic Church and served as a deacon. Known for his sermons featuring subtle humor (some found too much!) which focused on God’s love and forgiveness, he also worked as direct care worker/chaplain at Open Arms Homeless Shelter in White Plains for five years.

Dan was an outspoken advocate for inpatient psychiatric patients and other mentally disabled persons, campaigning against inappropriate involuntary drugging practices as well as for their discharge should their hospitalization become unnecessary.

He married Donna Jean Piazza, his true love and soulmate, in 1972 and together had six beloved biological children as well as many fostered ones – making their home their sanctuary. Additionally, he loved music immensely and was an accomplished pianist.

Professional Career

Daniel Pellegrin has been employed at Shackelford, Bowen, McKinley & Norton based out of Texas since 2017 as an associate attorney. This job lasted 2 years until their incorporation.

He was also an active member of the Society for Technical Communication (STC), and in her memory an annual scholarship named Melissa was established by Orlando Chapter STC.

Pellegrin has helped UH Hilo secure over $30 million in competitive federal grants since 2008. Additionally, he serves on the team that runs “Pharm2Pharm,” a project at the College of Pharmacy that advances pharmacist-led care models through research and education. One of its first of its kind nationwide, this program seeks to help seniors in the community manage their health through preventive and therapeutic services provided by UH Hilo pharmacists.

Achievement and Honors

He is a member of the Club des Anciens Rasesteurs and recipient of an Excellence Award from FFCC. In 2004, he served as Chairman of Board at SFCC from 2004 until 2006.

Pellegrin took over his family-run business and expanded it into 20+ magazines including HONOLULU Magazine with 90 employees and $10 million in revenues by the late ’90s. His mission was fueled by integrity, journalism, people – those working at magazines as well as those who read them – all within an environment of integrity, good journalism and people-centrism.

He is especially proud of the 4-H members who have won awards at prepared food contests; these include Katie Gautreaux of Lacache Middle; Jonathan Lugibihl from South Terrebonne; and Raquel Verrett of Vandebilt (beef cookery). In addition, St. Bernadette Catholic School students who have won 4-H scholarships stand out among his many accomplishments.

Personal Life

At the height of his medical crisis, Pellegrin opted to remain close to home in Westchester due to his fear that traveling into New York City alone may leave him vulnerable without anyone to turn to for assistance should something occur.

At present, he works as an associate attorney at Shackelford, Bowen, McKinley & Norton; according to ZoomInfo he has been there for two years.

His current known residential address is 247 222Nd Street in Golden Meadow, LA 70357; however, this information could change at any time due to public records. His previous addresses included 135 Judith Street Chauvin LA 70344, 370 Tinkham Court Colorado Springs CO 80911 and 123 Blue Street Gray LA. He does not live alone with any children but does have three.

Net Worth

Dan was known for his tireless work ethic and was known to dedicate most of his free time to family and friends. He was the beloved husband of Donna Jean Piazza, father to six birthchildren, and grandfather to 14 grandchildren.

In 2000, he joined New York Mental Hygiene Legal Service (MHLS), widely considered America’s finest dedicated legal advocacy program for protecting the human rights of inpatient psychiatric patients and developmentally other-abled. At MHLS he worked to protect these rights, fighting inappropriate involuntary drugging of psychiatric patients as well as advocating their discharge from hospitalization.
